These are important documents or evidence that employers may ask you for before or after starting work. It’s a good idea to make sure you have them to hand or know how to get them quickly:
1. Valid UK or European Economic Area (EEA) Passport or an National Identity Card showing the holder is a national of an EEA country. Here’s how to apply for a passport.
2. Full Birth Certificate – issued in the UK detailing the name of at least one of the holder’s parents or full Adoption Certificate issued in the UK detailing the name of at least one of the holder’s adoptive parents. If you can’t find your birth certificate, here’s how you can get a copy.
3. National Insurance (NI) number – You’ll be sent a National Insurance number automatically just before your 16th birthday, click here to find out more
4. Bank Account details – name of bank, address, sort code & account number (this can be found on your bank card or cheque book)
5. Proof of any qualifications required for the job.
If you are going to be working with children or vulnerable adults you will not be able to start work before the receipt of a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service check (DBS check). You may also need a satisfactory child protection register check where required.
